Classes are underway and it’s not too bad so far. My goal this semester is to get at least a 3.5. I know that I set it a little high and that it won’t be easy, but life isn’t easy either. I need to prepare for the future now. I only have 2 years left, maybe 1 and a half and so I need to get something lined up so I am ready to leave when I have to.
A huge part of this is the Technical Opportunities Conference (TOC) that is taking place on 18 Sept 2007. All of the top employers will be there so I need to be at the top of my game. That’s why I went out and bought a new suit today that looks so good on me and only cost $120 plus $7 for alterations. I also bought a shirt and tie to go along with it and I will buy the shoes when I pick up the suit.
Vick won’t play until 2010. Need I say anymore?
I see brighter days ahead for the Pirates. All of the wrongs of the past, and there are a lot of them, are now being rectified. They need to be rebuilt from the ground up. Hopefully the new management won’t be afraid to spend money and that their primary goal isn’t to stuff their pockets but to win. Plus you’ll be able to stuff your pockets with more money if you win.
The Steelers have something in common with me: We both have a tough year ahead. After their first 5 games (where they could easily start 5-0) and the bye week (why is it always so early), they have a tough road in order to try to make the playoffs. The good thing is that the Steelers have the talent and the skills to win on any given Sunday (or Monday, or Thursday, or Saturday).
I came across an interesting news story a couple days ago. A 23 year old female was forced to cover up on a Southwest Airlines flight after a passenger said that her skirt was too short. I took a look at the photo of what she had on and I believe that it was too short. My rule is that if you are standing in a position of attention and the bottom of your shorts or skirt is more than half an inch above your thumbs, it’s too short. If anything that anyone wears shows any undergarments or worse, it is too revealing and inappropriate. This is

“Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.” –Henry Van Dyke
“Getting ahead in a difficult profession requires avid faith in yourself. That is why some people with mediocre talent, but with great inner drive, go much further than people with vastly superior talent.” –Sophia Loren
“If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way.” –Bertrand Russell
“The third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. The second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. The first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.” -A. A. Milne
With everything going on right now, I would say that it’s game time and if you are going to make it, you will need to play and beat the game. The question is simple: Are you ready?
